Chaplain Position Description

"The earth is the Lord's and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it." (Ps 24:1) "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it." (Jn. 1:1-5)

Purpose: The Chaplain shall assist in providing a learning opportunity for counselors and campers to experience God's Word in the midst of God's world. Chaplains are to support and nurture staff and campers.

Accountability: To the Board of Directors of Camps and Conferences through the Program Committee and most importantly to God.

Responsibilities:

  1. To be a Christian example and source of encouragement for campers and staff.
  2. To aid in interpretation of the curriculum and the mission goals of the Board of directors of Camps and Conferences.
  3. To spend some quality time with each family group (how this may be done may be determined in conversation with the Program Director by posing the question: "What do you want me do and where do you think I should be?" The Director promises to be kind with suggestions.
  4. To nurture and support summer staff as needed
  5. Assist in leading group activities as needed including support of Bible Studies
  6. Chip in where needed -- sometimes a child or counselor needs a little T.L.C.
  7. Visit occasionally with counselors on time off (usually in the evening)
  8. Participate in high and low ropes course if you desire
  9. Build relationships with children and counselors
  10. Let your hair down, wear shorts and let the kids know that even preachers can build a fire and sweat on a hike!
  11. Let campers and counselors know that the Presbytery cares about them.
  12. Sing silly songs, do crafts, go swimming, go on nature walks, play games, laugh and enjoy yourself!
  13. Other responsibilities may be assigned by Summer Program Director, Assistant Summer Program Director, Counselors and children.

Essential Functions:

  1. Ability to share the love of God with the people of God
  2. Ability to listen to and support Summer Staff
  3. Ability to play with campers.

Relationships: Relates to everybody letting them know that they are loved.

Time Required: Part-time - one week at the most
