Our 2008 Camp Theme Is "Handle With Care"

God made us for relationship - with God, with each other and with creation. The call to relationship echoes throughout the biblical witness. Campers will deepen their understanding of what it means to live in loving relationship with God, each other, and creation with an emphasis on how they can "Handle with Care" these relationships. The scriptures provided will be emphasized in group Bible study, the evening worship service, activities throughout the day, and supported by the morning devotion.

Day 1: It's About Relationship: Genesis 2:4-23
The first part of Genesis chapter 2 provides a description of the perfect relationship between humankind and God. God created man and woman with care, accounting for their every physical, emotional, and spiritual need. This passage shows the love that God has for each of us, and the way that God initiated that relationship.

Day 2: It's a Matter Of Choice: Genesis 6:11-9:17
This passage describes the great flood and the way in which God rescued Noah and his family from destruction. It demonstrates that the behaviors and decisions of humankind can affect relationships with God and the world at large. It also depicts, through a rainbow, God's promise to never again destroy the earth with water. We are held accountable in our relationship with God.

Day 3: It's About Trust: Luke 12:13-32
The parable of the Rich Fool demonstrates the folly of not trusting in God to meet our needs. Jesus points to nature and shows that God will take care of our needs even more completely than he takes care of the birds and the flowers around us.

Day 4: It's What We Do: Matthew 25:14-30
The parable of the talents reminds us that God has entrusted each of us with gifts and skills to be used in our lives. What are the gifts that we have, and how can they be used to share with others about God's love?

Day 5: It's Good News: Mark 16:9-20
This is our Commission to go and tell others about God's love. As the campers leave camp, they are reminded of the things they have learned about God and his relationship with us. They have stories and memories to get them started in sharing with others what they have learned. These are the scriptures that we will use as the focus of the corresponding day in each week of camp. Camps that are of different weeks will have a curriculum that has been adjusted accordingly but is in keeping with the focus of the scriptures discussed above.
