Summer Camp Program
Swimming
Every child will be permitted to play in the swimming areas of the
lake. However, the depth of water each child will be permitted to play
in will depend upon them passing specific "swim" tests.
- To swim in water deeper than neck height
- Each child must be able to "swim" the longest side of the swim area.
The type of stroke used is not important. The child must be able to
demonstrate they can swim from one end of the swim area to the other and
return without any serious difficulty.
- To swim in the dive area
- Each child must demonstrate they can tread water for at least 10
minutes.
Children are advised to bring swim suits appropriate for co-ed
swimming. Thus girls are asked to bring one piece bathing suits. Extra
beach towels are also adviced. The swimming area at Camp Hat Creek does
not provide much shade so sun screen is heavy advised.
Surprises
Surprise Activities can comprise of any of the following activities.
Participation in these activities depends upon a host of factors such as
availablity, time, weather, and other planned activities.
- Sleeping out under the Stars
- The camper will literally sleep out under the stars. Foregoing the
relative comfort of the hogan or lodges, the group will lay out tarps
and sleep under the canopy of God's heavenly beauty, watching shooting
stars and listening to the night sounds.
- Sleeping in the Treehouses
- There are two "treehouse" structures at Camp Hat Creek. If these are
not being used by another camping experience, then the counselors may
elect to have group sleep out in them one night.
- Panning for Gold
- Camp Hat Creek really does not have any gold but there is plenty of
ferious pyrite (fool's gold) laying around. And the group may decide to
go and literally "pan" for some in one of the streams which flow through
or along side the camp.
- Play in the Rapids
- The Little Falling River which borders the camp offers many
wonderful adventures to the campers. And in its currents is a place
called the "Rapids" (a small collection of rocks which provide maybe a
three-foot waterfall in the stream). At the rapids, the group can "tub"
over the waterfall, can skip rocks, or can simply wade around in the
cool waters.
